What We Believe

Here at Emmanuel United Church, we are committed to fostering a community where everyone feels at home. Our beliefs are rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, and we strive to embody his message of love, justice, and service.

We believe in being an inclusive and open community where all are welcome regardless of background, identity, or life journey. We seek to support each other in our faith and everyday lives, and we are committed to reaching out and making a positive difference in our wider community.

Our church is part of the United Church of Canada, and we uphold the values of acceptance and diversity. We invite you to join us at any of our services or events to experience the warmth and compassion of our congregation firsthand. Whether you are seeking spiritual nourishment, community connection, or opportunities for service, you are welcome here.

We embrace the guiding principles of the United Church of Canada, reflecting our shared faith and commitment to a journey of love and service.

The United Church of Canada has crafted several profound statements of faith, among which the New Creed stands out as a cornerstone. This important belief statement encapsulates the essence of our faith and commitment to living in accordance with God’s will.

A New Creed:

“Our faith is beautifully encapsulated in the New Creed, which affirms that we are not alone; we live in God’s world. We believe in God who has created and is still creating, who came in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and renew, who works in us and others through the Spirit. We trust in God’s presence in every moment of our lives. Called to be the Church, we celebrate God’s presence, live with respect in creation, love and serve others, seek justice and resist evil, and proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our Judge and our Hope. In life, in death, and beyond death, God is with us. We are never alone. Thanks be to God.”

In addition to embracing the New Creed, we adhere to the foundational Articles of Faith as outlined in the Basis of Union (detailed in The Manual). Furthermore, our faith is also shaped by two significant statements that have evolved from these articles: the Statement of Faith from 1940 and A Song of Faith from 2006. These texts collectively enrich our understanding and expression of our core beliefs.

At Emmanuel United Church, our doors and hearts are open to everyone. We strive for inclusivity of all persons regardless of age, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, or abilities/disabilities. We invite you to join us in our mission to live out our faith through action — in our community, our country, and the world.
